There are seven themed orienteering walks from the Quinta da Moita Longa: six shorter routes in and around the old royal forest and one longer route where the country and seaside tracks trace the story of Pedro and Inês – accessible to everyone. There are two distinct courses of around 20 kilometres, made with guide, lasting around three hours each.A tour of around 16 kilometres can be made in one or more horse-drawn carts with guide, lasting about 2 hours. Cart and horse rides traverse mountains and valleys with dazzling views over the sea and along mountain ridges, acquainting you with the very first reflections of the regional presence of the Knights Templar, as well as the viticulture of Lourinhã Brandy, which competes with Cognac and Armagnac among the three dedicated brandy producing regions of Europe. The bridle paths follow the theme of the Knights Templar and were adopted for tourism at the recent discovery of clear evidence of this Order’s presence in the town of Sao Bartolomeu (Saint Bartholomew ) and the Quinta da Moita Longa. On leaving the Quinta via the ancient “cavalry highway” as identified in the Torre do Tombo (Tower of the Tomb), on arriving at the nearest village, we enter the “royal highway” and pass around the town of Sao Bartolomeu where there are sunken, and a few uncovered, gravestones of cavaliers of the Order of the Temple. You can experience weekends of intensive work, which seek to demonstrate how to manage the perfect work-life balance, with the family close by! |
